Abstract

Vegetative propagation through green-grafting techniques is the main alternative to provide high-quality Siger avocado seedlings on a large scale to support land rehabilitation programs. However, the success of this technique is highly influenced by the microclimate and the rootstock's physiological readiness. This study aimed to evaluate the independent and interaction effects of smothering treatments during the nursery period and variations in rootstock age on the success of Siger avocado green grafting. The research was conducted in a seedling nursery in Denggungan Village, Banyudono, Boyolali, using an experimental method with a two-factor Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and five replications. The first factor was the rootstock nursery condition (A₁: fully smothered; A₂: non-smothered). The second factor was the rootstock age at grafting (B₁: 4 weeks; B₂: 5 weeks; B₃: 6 weeks). The observed parameters included seedling height, number of seedling leaves, post-grafting plant height, number of postgrafting leaves, post-grafting leaf width, bud sprouting time, and seedling survival percentage at 35 DAG. Data were analyzed using a 5% level ANOVA and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% level.
